The Extended Touschek Lifetime

چکیده

Scattering of particles within the bunch is called Touschek scattering. If large enough, such an energy transfer may eject the particle out of the bunch. If a particle is scattered in the dispersive region, it will induce a horizontal betatron oscillation which will be coupled into vertical motion when it passes through skew components. The amount of coupling is expressed in terms of the coupling coefficient, χ. If the coupling coefficient is large enough, the resulting vertical oscillations may exceed the normally small vertical admittance of the ring. Thus the particles may be lost even though the energy loss is within the momentum acceptance. The lifetime associated with this loss mechanism is called the extended Touschek lifetime. In the usual Touschek lifetime calculation, the lifetime increases as the coupling increases. Including the effect of the vertical oscillation results in a decrease of Touschek lifetime beyond some coupling value.

TOUSCHEK BACKGROUND AND LIFETIME STUDIES FOR THE SuperB FACTORY

The novel crab waist collision scheme under test at the DAΦNE Frascati Φ-factory finds its natural application to the SuperB project, the asymmetric ee flavour factory at very high luminosity with relatively low beam currents and reduced backgrounds. The SuperB accelerator design requires a careful choice of beam parameters to reach a good trade-off between different effects. We present here si...

Beam Lifetime of the Pohang Light Source

Like other third generation light sources, main contributions to the be am lifetime of the Pohang Light Source come from the beam-gas scattering and the Touschek effect. The beam-gas scattering lifetime is measured with extremely low stored current in the long train of bunches. By investigating the vertical gap dependence of the beam-gas scattering lifetime, it i possible to decompose the beam-...

Lifetime Measurement of ATF Damping Ring

The purpose of the ATF darnping ring is the development of technologies for .producing a low ernittance bearn required in future linear colliders such as . .-, -_ JLC. The lifetime of the damping ring is very short (typically a few minutes). It is limited by elastic beam-gas scattering along with a srnall dynamic aperture, and by single intra-beam scattering (Touschek effect). The Touschek life...

Lifetime Studies at Metrology Light Source and Anka

The Metrology Light Source (MLS), situated in Berlin (Germany) is an electron storage ring operating from 105 MeV to 630 MeV and is serving as the national primary radiation source standard from the near infrared to the extrem ultraviolet spectral region [1]. In its standard user mode, the lifetime is dominated by the Touschek effect. Measurements and analysis of the Touschek lifetime as a func...

The Touschek Effect in Strong Focusing Storage Rings

The lifetime of a stored beam due to the Touschek effect is calculated for arbitrary ratios of beam height to beam width. A variation of the beam envelopes is taken into account, i. e. the derivatives of the horizontal and vertical amplitude functions and dispersions are included. The calculation is done for arbitrary energies in the rest frame of the colliding particles.
